A little about us here at Sawubona Design

Howzit

I'm Steve the founder of Sawubona Design, I thought I’d give you an insight into the inspiration behind our humble venture.

After thirty years in the corporate jungle, it was time to pursue a more creative and fulfilling passion. During my youth I spent ten years in the Far East and later witnessed the UK enthusiastically embracing products from the region. More recently I’ve spent fifteen years in Southern Africa but found African products less visible and accessible in the UK.

At Sawubona Design we hope to go some way to redress the situation. We aim to bring you products that offer style and substance, that look and feel indulgent, I always buy gifts I’d like to receive myself and our offerings are reflective of that.

Our products are typically hand crafted by individuals, small community groups or charitable organisations using traditional techniques, non-mechanised methods, with inherently sustainable credentials.

Our product range showcases great skill, creativity and a luxuriousness that may surprise many, by their very nature many of these products have a unique characteristic and individuality that promotes craft and design over mass production.

Africa is an incredibly diverse and vibrant continent and African crafts are reflective of that with countless unique designs that showcase the rich culture and tradition of the continent. With so many talented artisans it can be difficult to decide what to showcase, all we can say is that we hope to bring you new exciting collections on a regular basis.

Thanks for your support and we hope our artisans' creations bring happiness to your personal space.
